Winter Fire Garden to come to Roman Lawn in Dover instead of Christmas lights celebration

A fiery and free event is promised at a Winter Fire Garden on the Roman Lawn in Dover.

The weekend on November 28 and 29 is organised by the town council, and residents from the CT16 and CT17 postcodes only are invited.

Due to Covid-19, there will be Christmas lights but the council will not hold the annual Switch-On event that the town is used to.

Instead this autumnal alternative will be staged in a safe, socially distanced manner.

Outdoor art experts Walk the Plank will illuminate the historic town centre into a brilliant fiery display.

Timed slots need to be booked to preserve a safe environment and support social distancing guidelines.

These can be booked beforehand on a first come, first served basis.

A statement from Dover Town Council said: "The Winter Fire Garden is an outdoor family experience which has been adapted for social distancing to provide the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy something magical, encouraging warmth and feelings of togetherness.

"Visitors will wander through a series of immersive fiery installations and see sculptural scenes of flames and foliage cast a golden glow around the Roman Lawn.

"Following flame-lit pathways, visitors can expect to see intricately carved flower boxes and feel the heat from flame-filled floral chimneys. From mechanical plants that burst into flame to holly bushes that ignite in a flash, the Fire Garden will offer an unforgettable family friendly experience."

Nathan Jackson, Walk the Plank producer, said: “We’re really excited to be bringing our Fire Garden to Dover.

"This fiery experience has delighted people of all ages in towns and cities across the country and we’re certain it will enthral the people of Dover too.

"It’s a fantastic way of seeing familiar spaces in a whole new light.”

Slots are available between 5pm and 9pm on Saturday and Sunday November 28 and 29,
