Dover TAP traffic queuing measure brought in as Port of Calais mooring staff go on strike causing ferry disruption

Traffic queuing system Dover TAP is in place to manage freight waiting to board ferries at the Port of Dover and Operation Stack is expected to be implemented.

The road congestion is a direct effect from the closure of the Port of Calais where mooring staff have gone on strike.

Kent Highway Services said "The Dover Traffic Access Protocol (TAP) scheme on the A20 at Aycliffe has been implemented due to heavy freight volumes.

"This is to prevent Portbound traffic from disrupting the local road network and the A20 through Dover town."

The 24 hour industrial action in France is expected to last until 7am tomorrow (Friday) and is causing disruption to ferry services from Dover.

Marine tracking apps show vessels are at anchor in Calais but can not continue with discharging and reloading operations without the co-operation of the dockers.

P&O Ferries tweeted that its services are suspended and the firm is arranging for other providers to take its customers across the channel.

DFDS is still operating to and from Dunkirk and passengers can transfer onto one of those sailings.

The Port of Dover has tweeted: "As of 07:00hrs (local time) the #PortofCalais is closed to shipping due to industrial action. The Port of Dover of Dover remains open. Please contact your ferry operator before leaving home. Dov-Dunk route is operational."

Le Shuttle, for the Channel Tunnel route, tweeted: "Truck Shuttle Service running normally -High demand from France."
