Damage to gas mains in Dover causes gas leak

Damage to a gas mains in Townwall Street, Dover, has caused a gas leak in the town this afternoon (Friday).

SGN, the gas distribution company, confirmed that engineers are currently on site making repairs to the mains.

Claire Buchanan, spokesperson for SGN, said: "I can confirm that we attended a gas escape in Townwall Street this afternoon, after a third party damaged one of our gas mains.

"We attended quickly and made safe. Our engineers are currently on site to make our repair."

It is not known whether this has anything to do with the construction works at the St James' development, which is set to transform the town centre with new restaurants, shops, cinema and hotel.
