Coronavirus Kent: Trial of Claire Lunn and Justin Burnett in Graveyard 'murder' postponed over Covid-19

The trial of a man and woman accused of murdering a homeless man in a Dover cemetery has been put back.

Claire Lunn, 47, and Justin Burnett, 37 are remanded awaiting trial for allegedly killing of Piotr Lacheta, 55.

The body of the Polish national was found in Cowgate Cemetery, Albany Place, Dover in October.

The pair were arrested that day and later pleaded not guilty via video link at Maidstone Crown Court.

The trial was initially due to begin on Monday, March 30, but, owing to Covid-19 disruption, the case was instead the prosecution applied to extend the custody time limits.

A court official told Kentonline: "The time limits were duly extended to May 15, 2020 and the case will be further mentioned during the week commencing May 4, to review the position and consider whether, in the current circumstances, the custody time limits should be extended further."

A crowdfunding campaign was set up to help pay for the repatriation of Mr Lacheta's body to Poland for a family burial.

It was organised by Marcin Pawlak.

The account has now been deactivated with £1,180 of te £2500 target raised.
