Hopes for more Government money for Dover Town Centre and Waterfront scheme after £3.2 million from Future High Streets Fund

The district council is continuing to work with the Government to finalise a multi-million pound town centre project.

Council leader Trevor Bartlett, at a full meeting, said the authority had not got the full amount needed but more might be available from a levelling up fund.

Last December it was announced that Dover got a provisional £3,202, 336 for the Dover Town Centre and Waterfront project, 69% of the sum asked for.

The Government offered £830 million to 72 areas across England in its Future High Streets Fund to help them revive from the pandemic and transform underused town centres.

A spokesman for Dover District Council explained that it submitted a bid with the aim of increasing activity and footfall around the high street area in Dover.

It said it was currently working with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to finalise the project.

A final decision by MHCLG is expected this spring.

Cllr Bartlett now said:“We are delighted that the Government has allocated provisional funding of more than £3.2M from the Future High Streets Fund for Dover.

"We continue to work with the MHCLG to finalise the project.”
