Rescue of shire horse Grace in stable by firefighters in Dover

Fire crews rescued a shire horse who couldn't get up.

Firefighters were called to the mare, called Grace, who was stuck in her stable at Church Hougham, Dover.

They used a forward assist method to get her back on all four hooves.

This includes using a glide sheet and a rescue strops around the body to lift her up.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said in a Facebook post this morning: "Luckily, after a successful rescue and a quick check over by the vet, it was confirmed she had no injuries.

"She was back to horsing around in the stable."

A KFRS spokesman further explained that its animal rescue unit was called out to Hougham Court Lane just before 10am on Tuesday, January 21.

They were there until 12.20pm.
