Chicken Cottage replaces KFC in Market Square, Dover

A long-running KFC outlet which closed last year has been filled by another fast-food company.

The chicken chain had been based in Market Square, Dover, for about 35 years before shutting last summer.

But the premises has now been taken over by Chicken Cottage, which officially opened on May 30.

A spokesperson for the company said: “This location holds particular significance as it replaces a long-standing KFC in the heart of the town centre, and we’re excited to be part of the local community.

“Dover represents an important step in our ongoing expansion, particularly in east Kent, where our only other outlet so far is in Canterbury.

“We see great potential in Dover’s vibrant town centre and believe our presence can offer a fresh and appealing alternative for residents and visitors alike.”

The Canterbury branch is in St Peter’s Street in the city centre and the only other one in Kent and Medway is in Chatham High Street.

The chain was established in 1994 and now has 68 outlets in the UK.

Local historians believe KFC had been in Market Square at least since 1990.

The branch closed last June, along with outlets in Maidstone and Crayford, when the franchise holders went into administration.

KFC still has more than 1,000 branches in the UK.
