Greyhound rehomed in Dover after being found as a stray at just two-year-old

A greyhound who has had no luck with owners has finally been rehomed in Dover after being found as a stray at just two.

Charm, now nine, was saved from being put to sleep in Wales in February 2010 by the Chancepixies Animal Welfare in Gravel Lane, Dover.

On Sunday, he was adopted by Karen Walker, of Eastcliff, after she saw his picture in Pets at Home in Folkestone.

This comes after years of failed foster placements due to the greyhound’s separation anxiety which saw him running away for more than a week during Christmas and new year but he was safely returned to the charity and another owner was sought.

Ms Walker, 50, who runs a holiday-let business from her home in Dover, was the perfect candidate to look after Charm because she does not need to leave him for long periods during the day.

She said: “I knew straight away, that’s the dog I was going to have. I didn’t rush into it, I took him out for walks first.

“I was moving to Dover from London to be closer to my mum who has Alzheimer’s but it was very difficult to find somewhere with a landlord that would take him.

“I don’t think I’ve given him a home, I think he has given one to me.”

She said the move to Dover has been made much easier by Charm, who helps her to make friends everywhere she goes.

Despite Charm’s difficult start in life, he is now settling into his new home but still has some problems with being left alone.

Chancepixies will be hosting a leaving party for him on Saturday with homemade cakes, cookies, and a raffle.

All the funds raised will go towards the charity’s latest campaign to stop councils from licensing puppy farms.
