Investigation into assault at Dover Townwall Street underpass, victim with head injury

A man is believed to be recovering after suffering a serious head injury in an assault.

Another man, arrested in connection with the incident, has since been bailed.

The victim, in his 60s, was found hurt in the walkway at Bench Street, Dover, at 1am last Wednesday.

He was taken to a local hospital and his condition was described as serious.

The arrested man was a 36-year-old, of no fixed address.

A Kent Police spokesman said today: "He has been released on bail until April 5.

"The victim, we believe, is recovering."

Police last week rushed to the scene after the received a call saying the victim was in the underpass, needing medical help.

The area remained cordoned off into Wednesday afternoon with PCSOs guarding the scene.

The walkway runs beneath Townwall Street and is passage between Bench Street and New Bridge and the Seafront.

All four entries into the tunnel were sealed off.

Police said last Wednesday that CCTV was being reviewed said anyone with information should call them.
