A large rescue operation took place today after “small boat activity” in the Channel.

An HM Coastguard plane is circling the area, and Border Force boats have also been launched.

People have been brought to shore in Dover, but it is not yet known how many or if there have been any casualties.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard is coordinating the response to reports of small boat activity in the English Channel today, April 17.

“UK Border Force vessels have been sent and people have been recovered to Dover.”
