Herne Bay man who was in possession of a meat cleaver in Dover avoids jail

A man spotted with a meat cleaver in a town centre had avoided jail.

Adam Townsend, 35, of Brunswick Square, Herne Bay, had the meat cleaver in Tower Hamlets Road on January 10, 2015.

On January 21, 2015, he failed to surrender to bail at Folkestone Magistrates' Court without reasonable excuse.

He pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and failing to surrender to court bail.

He was sentenced on Wednesday, August 24, at Medway Magistrates' Court to six weeks in prison, suspended for six months.

He must also pay a £50 fine, £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
