A 19-year-old local man was arrested after a 26-year-old was approached by an unknown man and reportedly punched in the face in an unprovoked incident in the High Street.

It is then reported that he assaulted a cyclist riding a push bike by the petrol station in Folkestone Road .

Police say he then allegedly went on to assault another cyclist, again in Folkestone Road, by punching him and knocking him off his bike.

Investigating officer PC Annmarie Benson said: ‘We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the assaults, or anyone who may have been assaulted themselves. In particular I would like to hear from the cyclists that witnesses tell us were assaulted by the suspect.’

The 19-year-old was released from police custody and remains under investigation.
