Pothole and bridge repairs on A2 and Dover port announced by MP Natalie Elphicke

Potholes on a key road will be repaired as well as a bridge through Government money.

Work will take place to resurface and repair the holes, which can damage cars, on the A2 at Dover and replace 12 bridge bearings at the port.

The money comes from the Government’s Road Investment Strategy to improve routes in the South East in an investment totalling £142 million.

Dover MP Natalie Elphicke said: “It is an important part of my job as Member of Parliament to press for the right road infrastructure to be planned, funded and delivered for our community.

“A number of residents have raised concerns about potholes along the A2, which take heavy wear from lorries and bad weather.

"I have pressed for these improvements for some time so I welcome the Government funding for this much needed work."

She added that she continues to have meetings with Highways England and Government ministers about the ongoing work on the Dover A2 major upgrade proposals.

This is to strengthen the local road network for the long term.

She added: “I have also had lengthy discussions with Kent County Council’s highways team and

Highways England about designing improvements for the Whitfield and Duke of York's

roundabouts to ease congestion and make more free-flowing for local traffic.”
