Dover councillor calls on Aycliffe vandals to be named and shamed

A Dover councillor claims vandals who destroyed a flower bed planted by children in Aycliffe should be named and shamed.

Town and pier district councillor Georgette Rapley organised for pupils at Aycliffe Community Primary School to help plant flowers and seeds in the flower bed in Old Folkestone Road on Thursday, March 10.

Just 24 hours after they were planted by the children, she claims vandals came and pulled the flowers from the soil.

Cllr Rapley said: “The children of Aycliffe Primary School planted flowers and seeds, courtesy of B&Q, in the raised beds in the Old Folkestone Road. It was hard work for those little hands.”

She said the activity was to show the children the importance of flowers for the community and also to make the village look good for the Queen’s 90th birthday.

She said: “However we now have a small mindless group of vandals who think nothing of desecrating what was and still hope to become a lovely display for all.”

She said the vandals gave no thought to the hard work that was applied to the project and the beds were again targeted over the weekend.

She claims many in the community now know who is responsible for the damage and she hopes they will “make good what they destroyed”.

However, according to Kent Police, officer enquiries found that no crime had taken place.

Police were called at 11.24am on Sunday, March 20, to reports of criminal damage to a set of flower beds in Old Folkestone Road.

Aycliffe Community Primary School confirmed that the school had been made aware of the issue but did not wish to comment.
