Car park at St James retail park in Dover partially closed after storm damage to M&S retail unit

A section of car park at a town centre shopping complex has been cordoned off after damage to one of the centre's retail units.

The roof panel at M&S in the St James retail park in Dover was damaged yesterday as strong winds and heavy rain lashed the Kent coast.

An M&S spokesperson said: "M&S Dover is open and serving customers as normal.

"One of the store's roof panels was damaged by bad weather yesterday.

"Our maintenance team have already checked the roof is safe and are starting works today to repair the panel."

Elsewhere in the town, a video was shared online by the Dovorian restaurant which showed water gushing down a flight of stairs.

People commenting on Facebook said it was a "nice water feature", joking that it was an improvement on the water rings in Market Square and the regularly flooded underpass between Bench Street and the seafront.

Parts of the county saw half of November's average rainfall in a few hours, with Lamberhurst recording 62mm of rain.

This morning flood warnings remained in place for parts of the county.

A flood alert has been put in place for the Rivers Eden and Eden Brook due to heavy overnight rainfall.

A yellow weather alert was in place yesterday morning which was followed by a second warning for thunderstorms which was in place until 6am today.
