Rapist jailed for nine years

A 23-year-old rapist has been sent to prison for nine years by a judge at Canterbury Crown Court for an attack on a girl of 14.

Judge Anthony Webb told Barry Camwell that although the girl had joked with him and said something about "fancying a snog," it was no invitation to him to rape her.

The girl was raped at Dover Priory railway station in broad daylight in March after being lured up some steps to a lift area by Camwell who had pretended he wanted to show her something.

Camwell, of Beaufoy Road, Dover, had claimed the girl was a willing partner. He said she told him she was 16 and acted like a 16-year-old.

Camwell will be on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
