Migrant crisis: Group of nine suffering with 'mild hypothermia' detected by French border patrols

Migrants suffering with "mild hypothermia" have been picked up by coastal patrols in France this morning.

The group of nine - eight men and one child - were detected in the Channel by the Regional Operational Monitoring and Rescue Centrer of Gris-Nez (CROSS Gris-Nez) at 7.20am.

They were recovered around 40 minutes later three miles west of Cape Gris-Nez and taken to Calais.

They are now in the hands of the French border police.

An image of the rescue drama was tweeted by the French maritime authority for the Channel and North Sea, Préfecture Maritime de la Manche et de la Mer Du Nord.

The latest incident is the third this weekend bringing the total number of migrants picked up in the last 48 hours to 29.

Yesterday, 20 people in two boats were discovered and taken to Dover. One migrant was found unresponsive but has since been assessed and deemed fine by paramedics.

New government figures announced this week revealed that more than 700 migrants have planned or tried to reach Britain via the Channel in small boats in 14 months.
