Snow falls in Dover but most of Kent disappointed

Snow flurries have dusted parts of Kent with the white stuff.

The chilly conditions, which saw temperatures fall to -2C overnight, have led to light patches in the county.

Snow fell and settled in Dover overnight and there has been some in Canterbury this morning.

Emma R tweeted: "Light snow. Was heavier overnight but not much left on the ground. Pretty though!"

Caz Kidney also tweeted: "The weather guru got the weather wrong !!! He said no snow, well in Dover Kent we have snow."

It comes as a new yellow weather warning has been issued for ice across the east of the county from 6pm this evening until 11am tomorrow.

Motorists have been told to expect ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, leading to longer journey times.

Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces could occur.

Gritters will treat all primary routes in the county from 2.30pm today and from 4am tomorrow.

Despite the snowfall, most people have been left disappointed that flurries had not materialised after a yellow weather warning was issued across the county last night.

Leeds Castle tweeted: "As you can see, it's not quite a white-out at Leeds Castle this morning... #blackswan #suchaposer #snow #uksnow."

Earlier, what had looked like snow in Canterbury this morning looks more like a sleet shower.

Captain Bufetowa tweeted: "Pretending to snow in Canterbury. Not that impressed tbqhwy."

Rosemary Pepper added: "I wish it would snow in Canterbury - properly! Yes, I know it's a selfish wish and you'll probably all hate me for it. But it looks so pretty, and I miss it. Even my grandchildren in Paris have been making snowmen."
