A stalker threatened a woman with an acid attack then tried to bully her into changing her evidence against him.

Perri Gulliford, formerly of Dover, has now been jailed for the campaign against his victim, which included calling and trying to intimidate her from prison.

The 29-year-old's offences took place in June 2019 when he sent messages to the woman implying she would be the victim of an acid attack.

He also visited the homes of the woman's family and friends, telling one family member that he had paid someone to throw acid at the woman.

Police arrested Gulliford a week after the stalking began and he was charged and remanded in custody ahead of the case being dealt with at court.

Gulliford then registered the woman's phone number as one of his relative's with prison authorities, allowing him to call the victim, demanding she withdraw her evidence.

The victim wrote to court to change her statement following his calls, but police officers investigated and uncovered Gulliford’s actions.

At Canterbury Crown Court, in November last year, he admitted stalking and acts attempting to pervert the course of justice.

On Friday, Gulliford was given a three-year, three-month sentence at the same court.

Det Insp James Wyles said: "Stalking and harassment can have a devastating effect on victims' lives and Kent Police remains focused and committed to bringing offenders to justice.

"I would encourage anyone who fears they are being stalked or who is suffering abuse at the hands of someone they know to report it to us.

"Be reassured you will get the support you need and we will find an outcome which is right for you.

"Despite Gulliford’s actions, our officers put together a strong case which has led to this evidence-based prosecution and a significant sentence."
