Police and ambulance called to Melbourne Avenue, Dover, after child hit by car

A child has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car on a busy road near a school.

Emergency services were called to Melbourne Avenue, Dover, after the collision at about 3.30pm.

A police spokesman said officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service were sent.

They added: "Kent Police received a report of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian at around 3.30pm on Friday.

"A child sustained injuries and was taken to a local hospital."

An ambulance service spokesman said: "I can confirm we have attended the scene following reports a person had been hit by a car.

"The person was assessed and treated at the scene and has been taken to William Harvey Hospital for further treatment and checks."

A passer by earlier told KentOnline there was a crowd of people, lots of flashing lights and someone in the road.
