Thief from Park Avenue, Dover, sentenced for shoplifting at Asda

A man has been placed under curfew for a string of shoplifting offences.

Jason Cox pleaded guilty three counts of shoplifting and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour in Dover.

This replaced an original charge of assault for this incident.

Cox, 48, of Park Avenue, Dover, pleaded guilty to all other charges put to him at Medway Magistrates Court.

Three were of shoplifting in Dover: stealing meat joints from Asda on January 15, £40 in batteries from Poundland on January 13 and a £1.59 box of cereal from Asda on February 11.

In addition he admitted possessing a quantity of Class A diamorphine in Gravesend on February 24 and a quantity of cannabis in Canterbury the next day.

For all these offences the court ordered him to be under curfew and electronic surveillance until May 25.

He was also made to take treatment for drug rehabilitation for six months.

Finally, Cox was ordered to pay a total £220 in compensation, costs and a victim surcharge.
