Trains between Dover Priory and Shepherdswell suspended as lorry crashes into bridge

Commuters were delayed after a lorry crashed into a rail bridge – but the driver did not report the accident.

Trains were suspended between Dover Priory and Shepherdswell following the collision in Kearsney at about 7am today.

Network Rail teams were called to the village to check the structure – and urged people to report bridge strikes.

It tweeted: "It wasn't reported to us by the driver but luckily the lorry seems to have come off worse.

"Always report incidents like this as they can have serious safety implications."

A Southeastern spokesman added: "We were advised of a road vehicle colliding with a bridge at Kearsney earlier today.

"For safety, trains were unable to run between Dover Priory and Shepherdswell, until the bridge was examined."

Officials confirmed just before 8.05am that services were no longer disrupted.

Police were contacted for comment.
