A2 approach to Port of Dover fully reopen after crash involving three lorries

A key route for traffic heading to the Port of Dover has fully reopened this evening after a crash involving three lorries earlier today.

The incident happened on the A2 at the Whitfield roundabout at around 10.25am and led to the closure of the road in both directions between the A260 at Lydden Hill and the A256.

The three lorries were travelling in the same direction on the coastbound carriageway, from Lydden Hill approaching the Whitfield roundabout, when the collision took place.

Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service were all sent to the scene.

The A2 remain closed in both directions to least until about 8pm and by 8.40pm both carriageways were fully reopened, after officers carried out inquiries into the collision and vehicles are recovered.

Earlier in the afternoon police had said: "Delays are likely, and motorists are advised to avoid the area and follow diversions in place."

Police have since confirmed one of the drivers died at the scene.
