Christians Together in Dover 2021 Walk of Witness virtual because of Covid pandemic

People are being invited to go on a long walk on Good Friday - from the comfort of their own homes.

Christians Together in Dover have for several years organised a Walk of Witness through the town centre at Easter from Dover Town Hall to Dover Castle. But in 2021, because of Covid virus restrictions, that's not possible.

Instead CTiD leaders are providing a Virtual Walk of Witness on April 2 with viewers watching on their computers the progress of a small band of marchers.

There will be 10 walkers, socially distanced, and setting off at 10am.

The 1.7 mile hike will be filmed and afterwards shown online.

Another change this year is that the Walk is being extended, now starting from Our Lady of Dover RC Church in Buckland Estate to continue through the town to the Castle.

During stops a CTiD Walk and Talk representative will details the various ways the church volunteers boost the social life of the town.

These voluntary social outreach activities to be detailed include the Foodbank, Dover Outreach Centre, Street Pastors, a money budgeting course, port chaplains' work, Songs of Praise in nursing homes and children's activities.

The Rev Barry Barton, Dean of Dover's Catholic Church, says: "Our aim is that the short description given by the Easter Voices will be heard and watched by viewers on the You Tube video as those progress on the Walk of Witness through their town of Dover."

Christians Together in Dover has members from a range of the town's faith communities including Methodists, Roman Catholics, Baptists, Anglicans and Apostolics.
