Crews were called just after 6pm yesterday, with six fire engines and a bulk water carrier in attendance at the height of the fire.

A witness said: "We were first on the scene after spotting the fire from our yard and went to investigate.

"We managed to block the road and open the gates for the firefighters, using the what three words [app] as the location wasn’t easily described.

"The fire took hold really quickly, and lots of explosions and bangs were heard.

"The firefighters arrived and set to work quickly, but trying to find a fire hydrant was difficult.

"We even tried locating one for them while they started assessing the fire, but after a ring round and a Google search, we couldn’t find one."

A drone was also being used to help crews on the ground.

In an update issued at 7am today (Tuesday), the fire service said operations are ongoing, and the crew had been reduced to one engine.

A fire service spokesman said: “One fire engine is in attendance and crews are making good progress.”

They said firefighters remained on scene overnight to continue a controlled burn and to maintain a watching brief.

They added: “People living nearby are still being advised to keep their windows and doors closed.”
