Caroline Flack death: Silk Hair Salon, Dover, also boycotts gossip magazines

Another hairdresser is boycotting celebrity gossip magazines following the Caroline Flack tragedy.

Silk Hair Salon, in Menzies Road, Whitfield, will instead provide publications promoting wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle.

The salon said in a Facebook posting: " We have decided that we no longer wish to support celebrity magazines and all the gossip that goes into them, much of which is speculative and invasive and whilst we have known that, we have all become desensitised as it has become the norm.

"The devastation this leaves behind has manifested itself in the worst possible way, but it has woken us up to the fact that we all have a part to play and from today (February 20), at Silk, we’d like to join other salons and make a change."

The post was shared 19 times by today and got 164 marks of approval, either by like or love symbols.

It added the #bekind hashtag, which has spread since Miss Flacks's death.

The salon was prompted to by the former TV presenter's suicide on Saturday, February 15, followed by her last online message released by her parents last Wednesday (February 19).

The star said on the Instagram post in late January that her future was "swept from under her feet" when she was arrested for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend in December.

She added: "I've accepted shame and toxic opinions on my life for over 10 years and yet told myself it's all part of my job.

"The problem with brushing things under the carpet is they are still there."

Other Kent salons taking this action include Beau Boutique in Smeeth, Ashford.

Its Facebook post said: "We will not be promoting these magazines that troll people, put people down, advertise peoples personal issues, criticise people's outfits."

The former presenter of the TV reality show Love Island was found dead in her London home on Saturday, February 15.

A lawyer representing her family said that she had taken her own life.

It is understood that Miss Flack, 40, had struggled with her mental health. particularly in recent months after she was arrested on suspicion of assaulting Lewis Burton.

She pleaded not guilty was to go in trial next month despite Mr Burton saying he did not want to press charges.
