Women complete three-way Channel swim

SIX women became the first all-female relay team to complete a three-way swim of the English Channel at the weekend.

Lucy Roper, Pip Spibey, Dee Llewellyn, Julie Bradshaw, Andrea Gellan and Lianne Llewellyn swam from England to France, back to Dover and then back to France again in just over 32 hours.

Dover woman Alison Streeter completed her 43rd swim of the Channel on Saturday, swimming from England to France in 12 hours 35 minutes. She holds the record for the most swims by anyone.

Her nearest rivals are Mike Read and Kevin Murphy who have each made 32 swims.

Another British swimmer, Nicola Joyce, completed her solo swim in 14 hours 15 minutes, and Margy Sullivan and Mark Sawyer swam a two-person relay from England to France in 14 hours 56 minutes.
