Dover Athletic midfielder Liam Bellamy frustrated by lack of activity as he recovers from surgery

Injured Dover midfielder Liam Bellamy didn’t enjoy the best of days in Yorkshire last Saturday.

He was sat in the stands watching FC Halifax beat his side 3-2 and to complete a miserable double, his beloved West Ham United crashed out of the FA Cup – losing 4-0 at West Brom.

The 23-year-old Londoner said it had been a horrible day.

“As a player, you want to be out there with the lads giving it your all.

“You cannot do that from the stands and I just hate not being able to do that.

“It’s really depressing to be honest. I am not a good watcher of football at the best of times, let alone when you are injured.

“As for the Hammers, well, even they couldn’t cheer me up, but I am sure I am not the only West Ham fan left disappointed after that performance.”

Bellamy admits he won’t be back in action any time soon as he recovers from surgery.

He broke two bones in his hand during the FA Trophy third round clash at Woking on January 24.

Bellamy, who joined Whites from Ebbsfleet in the summer of 2013, fell awkwardly as he set up Stefan Payne to score Dover’s third goal in the 3-3 draw.

He originally expected to be out for four weeks but now he’s looking at least another month after needing surgery.

Bellamy said he wasn’t looking forward to his stint on the sidelines – not one bit.

“The surgeon told me I would probably be back playing in about six weeks but I hope to be back after four, well, hopefully I will be.

“But the worst thing at the moment is that I just cannot do anything. I cannot train, I cannot go to the gym or anything.

“Hopefully I will get a cast put on soon and that will mean at least I can start to do something because it’s driving me crazy not being able to do anything. I am so frustrated.

“It’s proving to be a real waiting game for me at the moment and I just wish it was over sooner rather than later.

“I just hate being like this.”
