Carruthers sent off as Whites lose again

Dagenham 1 Dover 0

Dover's misery at the bottom of the Conference continued as they they missed a penalty and had a man sent off in losing at leaders Dagenham on Saturday.

Trailing 1-0 with 15 minutes left, they were awarded a spot kick after Daggers 'keeper Tony Roberts brought down Scott Ramsay just inside the area. But Roberts then thwarted Ramsay by stopping his spot kick with a fine tip-away save, and three minutes later Dover had substitute Matt Carruthers sent off for trampling on the fallen Mark Smith after the Daggers central defender had been knocked over from behind.

A mass brawl ensued, but after the referee had restored order he showed Carruthers the red card.

The only goal came three minutes before half-time when Jimmy Aggrey's attempted clearance was charged down by Daggers' man-of-the-match Steve McGavin, who took the ball on into the area and beat Paul Hyde with a shot in off the far post.
