Dover Athletic manager Andy Hessenthaler says victory at Yeovil in the National League would be huge

Victory for the second time in a week for Dover would be “huge” according to boss Andy Hessenthaler.

Whites, fresh from their midweek win over Barnet, visit Yeovil on Saturday in the National League.

Their hosts sit immediately above the relegation zone but Dover know that victory would cut the gap between the teams to just four points.

“Back-to-back wins would be huge,” said Hessenthaler. “Weymouth have just done it and that’s what we have to do.

“When we came in a few years back we went on an unbeaten run and we’ve got to emulate that in the next few weeks to try and drag a few teams closer to us.

“Yeovil are a good side. They’ve not had the season they’d hoped for but they are a massive club and had started to pick up some results at the turn of the year.”

Yeovil returned to action with a 4-2 defeat at Maidenhead on Wednesday night after a break due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

Dover welcome back TJ Bramble and Jack Munns to the squad after both missed the midweek win over Barnet.

Hessenthaler was conscious of the workload for teenager Bramble while Munns was not considered due to the heavy nature of the Crabble pitch.

The Dover boss added: “We need warriors in the position we are in and we showed that we’ve got warriors (against Barnet).

“We’ve got to do that for the next 30 games now and it’s going to be a real test for us.”

With the future of the National League more uncertain than ever, Hessenthaler’s attempts to boost his squad are on hold.

There are a couple of available loan places in the squad after defender Bayli Spencer-Adams returned to Watford, but there won’t be any movement until the club know that the season will be completed.

“I’ve had a conversation with the chairman and because of the uncertainty at the moment we are going to see what develops,” disclosed Hessenthaler.

“Once we know that we can finish the season and there’s money coming in then we can maybe look to get someone in.

“Bayli going back has freed up a loan slot. He did great for us, he made some mistakes but is only 19 and will learn from them.”
