Dover Athletic report loss of £133,361 in the 2019/20 season

Dover Athletic made a loss of £133,361 last season according to their latest accounts.

Whites have stopped playing National League games this season as chairman Jim Parmenter says they have run out of money.

Their accounts for the period up to May 31, 2020, have been filed with Companies House and include the period at the end of last season when the National League season was curtailed for Dover in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the year, just over £730,000 was raised through ordinary shares being issued.

Dover benefited from government grants due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The company received £127,803 in the year via the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. They also received an additional £25,000 through a Small Business Grant Fund.

Dover's players and staff have been placed on furlough this month as the club said they cannot afford to continue to play matches.

Speaking earlier this month, Mr Parmenter said: "It has been heartbreaking but it was a decision where there was no other choice really, we had to do it.

"We have carried on for nearly eight weeks now with nearly no funding at all and we have managed to keep the club going but we have simply run out of resources.

"We think we can remain solvent by taking this action, that is the key driver to doing it."

Mr Parmenter stated he spent over £500,000 to keep them going last season and has been shelling out around £25,000 a week for the last two months to avoid getting the club into debt.

Dover have since been charged for failing to fulfil two fixtures by the National League - games against Sutton and King's Lynn - with more charges likely as they are not playing their scheduled match at Woking on Tuesday night.
