Dover Athletic stars make history on international duty

Dover's international contingency all saw game time as they represented their respective countries during the weekend's round of fixtures.

Anthony Jeffrey and Kadell Daniel started in Guyana's 2-1 win over Belize on Saturday as they qualified for the Concacaf Gold Cup for the first time in the nation's history.

The pair will now vie for a place in the Golden Jaguars' squad ahead of the 16-team tournament, which is due to be co-hosted by the United States and Costa Rica across June and July.

Bury midfielder Neil Danns opened the scoring for Guyana, who are 177th in FIFA rankings, before Emery Welshman grabbed a winner in a tightly-contested second half.

Reacting to the game, Jeffrey wrote on social media: "History has been made. Thank you god."

Whites' Daniel added: "The feeling I have now is indescribable."

Ricky Modeste meanwhile featured for Grenada as they beat Puerto Rico 2-0, although his side will not be involved in the competition in the summer.

The winger is now set to be available for Dover again having missed the previous three National League games with a knee injury.

Dover are due to travel to Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night for a fixture that was rescheduled due to the trio's involvement in the international break.
