Dover Athletic manager Andy Hessenthaler admits his team do not possess enough leaders on the pitch

Dover Athletic manager Andy Hessenthaler admits his side need to find some leaders on the pitch.

Tuesday's 4-0 defeat at Aldershot saw Whites slip down to 11th in the National League table and Hessenthaler said his team fell well below the standards they had set in winning six of their opening seven away games.

Dover face another road trip on Saturday when they travel to fourth-placed Barrow – who have won seven from seven – and Hessenthaler says it's time for the players to stand up.

He said: "We haven't got any leaders, we haven't got any leaders in the team.

"We've got experience in the team but we're 4-0 down (at Aldershot), we've got a free-kick in their half and we go back to our goalkeeper. What's that all about?

"Just put our centre-half up there and go and try to score a goal.

"We had a chance to go fourth in the table. It didn't look like it though, it totally didn't look like it.

"That's the worrying thing for me. We've gone from Notts County where we played well and could have easily won to a performance that is just not acceptable."

Hessenthaler admits he will make changes for the Barrow game and those he leaves out can have no complaints.

He explained; "Paul Rooney, he didn't even get on the bench, he's a centre-half, he'll be looking at me now saying ' Gaffer, we just got beat, we didn't do enough where's my chance?'

"He's got every right to come knocking on my door, and the ones that get left out, they can't be knocking on my door.

"For me hopefully it's just a one-off because if it isn't we've got to change things.

"I played the game very much on the front foot, very aggressive. For me that's not my team and I don't like that. "

Whites will again be without midfielder Ricky Modeste, who is on international duty with Grenada.

Subject to his international clearance coming through, Whites may include 20-year-old Italian attacker Roberto Ratti who has been signed on a non-contract basis after impressing on trial.

Hessenthaler explained: "He's looked bright in training and there's no risk to it at all.

"The chairman has done great to get him in non-contract and I know the agent really well.

"We'll see how he progresses and whether he can handle this level that's the key."
