Dover Athletic sign ex-Colchester United midfielder Arjanit Krasniqi

Dover have signed a midfielder who has represented Kosovo at youth level.

Arjanit Krasniqi, 22, has linked up with Andy Hessenthaler's Whites and goes into their squad for this weekend's National League home match against Southend.

The former Kosovo under-21 captain joins after making 19 appearances and scoring two goals in National League South for Braintree this season.

He started his senior career with Waltham Forest before he was signed by Colchester in January 2018, spending 18 months with the club.

After his release at the end of the 2019/20 season, Krasniqi, who was born and raised in London but represented his father’s native Kosovo at under-19 and under-21 levels, had a brief stay at Billericay Town before joining Finnish side, SJK, in February 2020.

His contract was cancelled by mutual consent in September 2020 and he joined Braintree that October, scoring two goals in 12 appearances last season.

On Friday on Twitter, he said: "Happy to be on board and (I am) excited to see the fans tomorrow - good luck to @braintreetownfc for the rest of season."

Basement boys Dover are 30 points adrift in the league but they are looking to build on their first win of the season, which they claimed on Tuesday as they beat Eastleigh 1-0 courtesy of Alfie Pavey's second-half effort.

Krasniqi is Dover's second signing this week, with on-loan forward Michael Gyasi having come off the bench in the win against Eastleigh after signing with Whites until the end of the season from league rivals King's Lynn.

Teenagers Noah Carney and Alex Green have both joined the injury list for Whites after playing for the Academy at Bromley on Wednesday.

Carney, who was not available for the Southend game due to his England under-18 Schoolboys commitments anyway, fractured a toe while central defender Green injured his ankle.

They join player-coach Reda Johnson, James Caton, Travis Gregory, TJ Bramble and Danny Collinge on the treatment table.
