Super sub Duane Ofori-Acheampong hopes his late leveller against Guiseley will be enough to earn him a rare start in Tuesday night's FA Trophy replay.
The 23-year-old arrived at Crabble in the summer but his goal in the 2-1 win over Altrincham in August was his only previous strike for Whites before he swept home a low cross from Ricky Modeste in the dying seconds on Saturday following a 20-minute cameo off the bench.
The one-time Southend youngsters admitted: "I enjoyed it. It's been a while since I was on the field so it was nice to get the goal.
"Over the course of the game I think we deserved at least a draw, though we were not at our best. We're still in the hat, that's the most important thing."
After netting six times for Torquay last season, Ofori-Acheampong showed early promise at Crabble but fell behind Ricky Miller and Stefan Payne in the pecking order as has since seen former Gulls teammate Tyrone Marsh, Harry Crawford and Mitchell Pinnock added to the attacking ranks,
He added: "Every game has been the same since I've been out of the side, looking on and wanting to get on and get a chance to make a difference. I have felt good in training but when an opportunity comes, you have to take it."
With the Vanrama National League clash with Welling, scheduled for Tuesday, now replaced by the last-16 Trophy replay in Leeds, Ofori-Acheampong hopes to have done enough to earn a starting role.
He said: "Getting some game time for me was important, it's about building myself up."
"I hope I've done enough but who knows, the manager knows what I'm capable of doing - when I get my opportunity he knows I'll try as hard as I can to do what I do."
