Dover’s Vista Twisters earn bronze at Cheerleading World Championships in Florida, the United States

Reaching the final at the Disney ESPN World of Sports in Florida, at International Senior Coed Level 5 Division, was a huge achievement for the club, based on Hollow Wood Road.

Up against 32 programmes, the 23 athletes of their T5 squad who qualified put out a zero deduction run in the semi-finals, placing sixth.

But their second performance was even better. They, not only achieved zero again, but improved the run by hitting
timing and stunts much better.

That gave them a good chance to beat their fifth place from 2022. After all 11 finalists had shown their skills, including competitors from Canada and Australia, there was a wait for results.

In the presentation arena, at 10pm, the teams and their supporters gathered as the awards were revealed in reverse order.

With the Australian Outlaws called out fourth, the venue erupted as there was a realisation T5 - led by coach Ruth McDade - had won a first Globe at the fourth attempt.

That led to chants of “T5” that could be heard in the areas outside the arena when they were awarded the bronze medal.

“Achieving a Worlds’ globe at only our fourth attempt is outstanding,” said McDade.

“I cannot praise these talented athletes enough and must thank all of the travelling supporters and the people at home.

“We have already qualified for Worlds 2026 and can’t wait to go back again and take on the very best.”

The club have more than 200 athletes, ranging from adults to those as young as four.
