Tyne's winner lifts Whites

Newport Co 0 Dover Athletic 1

TOMMY TYNE'S second-half goal enabled Dover to give their promotion challenge a boost with three more valuable points in South Wales on Saturday.

Tyne, making his first starting appearance since the second match of the season, struck 18 minutes from time. Steve Norman drove in a corner which Tyne forced over the line at the second attempt after his initial header had been blocked.

Newport looked the more likely to score in the first half and they were denied when Billy Clark saw his header cleared off the Dover goalline by Matt Carruthers.

Whites went close just before the break when Tony Browne's cross was headed narrowly wide by Tyne, but the striker - sidelined by a knee injury for nearly two months - hit the target in the second half to lift Dover back up into second place ahead of this Saturday's FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie with Woking at Crabble.
