Wesley Shrubsole angling: The closure of Dover's Admiralty Pier is bad news for local fishermen

More bad news for local sea anglers was announced this week with the Dover Harbour Board closing the Admiralty Pier to fishing.

This now means there is no pier fishing in Dover. This is sad as Dover in the past had a fabulous name for all its facilities for the sea angler.

Many of our top anglers cut their teeth on these piers and some represented our country in competitions worldwide.

Where now will the next crop of quality anglers fish? To give you some idea of how popular this port was for anglers there were five tackle shops in Snargate Street alone!

If you feel as strongly as I do, and many local anglers, please sign the online petitions in the hope that common sense prevails.

Here are some more impressive catches from the Dover venue over the years.
