Whites out to make Cup history

DOVER Athletic's "holy grail" of reaching the FA Cup first round for the first time beckons at Crabble this Saturday.

Their fourth qualifying round clash with Conference strugglers Woking offers Clive Walker's side a real opportunity to end years of disappointment and finally get their name into the hat, along with Football League clubs, when Monday's first round draw is made.

There is also the £20,000 prize money on offer for the winners of Saturday's tie, a cash boost which would be very welcome for chairman Mick Kemp and his board as they continue their efforts to put the club back on a firmer financial footing.

Whites assistant manager Paul Hyde watched Woking lose 2-0 to Luton in the LDV Vans Trophy on Tuesday and said: "Regardless of their league position, Woking have got a lot of quality players.

"We know that they are playing against good sides every week in the Conference, and we will have to be on our best form and also get a bit of luck if we are to beat them."

Providing there is a definite result in Saturday's game, Dover will be at home to Folkestone Invicta on Monday night in the Dr Martens League Cup first round. If the Woking game ends in a draw, the replay will be on Tuesday night, with Monday's game postponed.
