Dover Athletic opened their account for the new season in style with a 5-0 win against Eastbourne Borough in the pre-season friendly at Crabble on Tuesday.

Striker Stefan Payne and defender Sean Raggett both scored twice against the National League South side.

Former Luton Town striker Ricky Miller got the other goal, his second in consecutive games, after joining Whites last month.

And had it not been for some impressive saves from visiting goalkeeper Lewis Carey, the winning margin could have been a lot more.

The former Bristol City man, who was born in Tunbridge Wells, produced some quality shot-shopping in the second half to deny Payne, Miller and Nicky Deverdics.

Whites, who lost 4-1 against Whitehawk in their opening pre-season friendly at Crabble on Saturday, started well and it wasn't long before they were rewarded when Miller fired past Carey from 18 yards in the ninth minute.

Trialist Sam Magri almost marked his impressive performance with a goal in the 38th minute when the former QPR defender fired just over.

Dover boss Chris Kinnear made one change at half-time with Andy Rafferty replacing Mitch Walker in goal.

Raggett doubled Dover's lead five minutes after the break when he headed home Deverdics' corner.

Payne got his first of the night two minutes later after he slotted home following a defensive slip.

Magri played his part in the fourth goal when Payne headed home his cross in the 71st minute.

Raggett completed the scoring from close range in the final seconds after Carey had done well to save from trialist Ronnie Hawkins.

Dover are in action at another National League South side, Wealdstone, on Saturday (3pm).
