Manager Jake Leberl has revealed Dover are treating themselves to an overnight stay ahead of their Bank Holiday game against Torquay.
Whites intend to break-up their 260-mile trip to Plainmoor with a stay in a hotel tonight before tomorrow’s away match against Paul Wotton’s Gulls.
It will be a second National League South fixture in just 48 hours for Dover after they beat Salisbury 2-0 to make it three successive league wins on Saturday.
“They’re a very good side,” said Leberl on Torquay, who suffered a 2-1 loss at Horsham at the weekend. “They have got a really good manager.
“I’m really looking forward to going there. I think it’s a brilliant stadium and a really nice place.
“We’re travelling today. The chairman (Jim Parmenter) has put on a coach and us up in a hotel, which we’re really grateful for, and that gives us the best preparation so there’s no excuses.
“It’s a level playing field. We have started as well as they have done.
“It’s going to be tough because, obviously, it’s two games in a short period. But we have got a young squad.
“I’m sure they’ll look after themselves and recover, and be ready to give it their best at Torquay.”
Goals from summer signing defender Jalen Jones and striker George Nikaj in either half ensured Leberl’s charges beat Salisbury.
Leberl, who also saw substitute Luke Baptiste thunder a stoppage-time penalty he had won himself against the crossbar, reflected: “It was a really good day.
“It was a really solid performance, I wouldn’t say it was dominant.
“I felt they came here, had a right go and caused quite a few problems. But I felt we defended really well - like we did at Eastbourne the other night [winning 1-0 on Tuesday] - so I’m really pleased with the clean sheet.
“Like last season, we always look like we’re going to score goals.
“If we can stay in games and dig deep when we need to, I think we’ll get chances. There were two well-taken chances, including Nikaj with his right foot.
“I just feel a little bit sorry for Baps at the end with the penalty.”
While Salisbury, still yet to score after four league matches this term, looked more dangerous in the second period against Dover, they struggled to seriously test vastly-experienced keeper Mitch Walker.
“They caused some problems,” said Leberl. “They have got some very good players - no different to Bath or Totton - they have got some really talented, individual players.
“But I felt we limited them to long-range efforts. I remember Mitch making one or two saves but he wasn’t peppered at any point.
“We defended really well, stuck together dug deep and picked up the points.”
It means Dover’s opening-day 3-2 defeat at home to fellow newly-promoted team AFC Totton a fortnight before their Salisbury contest already feels some time ago for many Whites supporters.
“I was really disappointed with the Totton defeat,” admitted Leberl, who saw an improved attendance of 896 watch the game against Salisbury. “It’s taken me a long time to get over that.
“First game of the season, you want to make a good impression in the league. You want the fans to get right behind you and it was a little bit flat.
“To be honest, that was probably one of the slight disappointments (from the Salisbury match). I felt the atmosphere was flat, I really do, which is a real shame after the back-end of last season.
“It’s been difficult here. Our home record hasn’t been great and we need to excite the crowd, we understand that, and we have got to get them off their feet - and we need bigger numbers here.
“But yeah, it’s a really good start. We had to dig really deep at Bath for a long period of the game and, for 20, 25 or 30 minutes at Eastbourne, we had to dig really deep.
“But we’re defending very well as a unit.”
