An abandoned dog found covered in maggots and badly wounded from a gun shot is fighting for its life.
Vets are desperately trying to save Nellie, a very poorly Jack Russell, who was discovered in an incredibly bad state on the side of Eastling Road, Faversham.
The next 48 hours are deemed to be critical in her survival but experts say the "prognosis isn't good".
Nellie, who isn't chipped, was found collapsed on the side of the road and was severely dehydrated.
A post on the Facebook page for the Swale Borough Council Stray Dog Service describes Nellie's condition.
"Nellie is severely dehydrated and is covered in maggots," it reads.
"She also has a large wound on the upper part of her torso which the vets believe is a gun shot.
"She is very, very poorly and the next 48 hours will be critical. Please keep your fingers crossed for her.
"She isn't chipped. She's currently at the emergency vets but the prognosis isn't good."
Anyone who recognises Nellie and believes they know the owners, is urged to call on the council on 01795 417850 or the out of hours service on 07795 237479.
