Twenty-six new homes have been launched at a housing development to the north of Faversham.

Councillors threw their support behind the four-acre scheme off Ham Road back in December 2020, voting unanimously to grant permission for the complex.

Now, the developers behind the project, Hyde New Homes, have put the properties on the market ahead of their impending completion.

Planning permission was also granted for nine flats in a separate one-storey block, but they are yet to be launched.

There was little criticism for the proposals during the planning process, with Swale Borough Council looking favourably upon the proposals due to the pledge that all of the homes would be classed as 'affordable housing'.

Hyde New Homes says the 26 properties - comprising two and three-bed houses - are available through the shared ownership scheme.

Shared ownership means the purchaser takes out a mortgage on a share of a property and pays rent to a landlord on the remaining percentage.

Developers say the scheme, titled The Goldings, is suitable for first-time buyers and young families.

Minnie Dando, marketing and communications manager at Hyde, said: “We were counting down the days until we could reveal this fantastic development, which we have no doubt will become a hugely popular place to live.

“Shared ownership is a hugely popular scheme and has allowed many first-time buyers the chance to step onto the property ladder in areas they would originally have been priced out of.”

In total, there is permission for 62 parking spaces.

The site neighbours the much larger Faversham Lakes development which is set to be made up of 330 homes.

The £40 million project on the site of the former gunpowder and aggregates site at the Oare Gravel Works is partway through construction.

As part of the wider scheme, a visitor centre ‘heritage hub’ for the country park is set to be created by bringing derelict work buildings back into life.

During the last year, the average price for a home in Faversham hit £312,598, with semi-detached properties selling at an average of £330,462.
