A home security company says it is “heartbroken” after a blaze ripped through a historic building on a regenerated quayside and destroyed its office.
JC Lock And Safe was among those impacted after a fire broke out inside The Pottery Room at Standard Quay in Faversham yesterday.
Six fire engines were in attendance from around 12.34am yesterday (October 26) and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose-reel jets and main jets to extinguish the flames.
The fire spread to JC Lock And Safe and the unit behind, which, until recently, had been used as a butcher’s.
In a post this afternoon, the business, which specialises in intruder alarms and CCTV systems, said: “As most of you have heard, unfortunately, our office at Standard Quay burned down completely over the weekend.
“We are heartbroken at the loss, however, no one was injured or harmed, and that is the most important thing.
“Despite these recent unfortunate events, we are still trading and are looking forward to the future of our business. We will not be letting this hurdle bring us down.
“Our number has been diverted and is now working as usual, so please continue to book in any services, etc with us.
“We have unfortunately lost our diary, and all files, so if you haven’t heard from us and would like to confirm your scheduled booking with us for the next couple of weeks, please get in contact with us.
“Please feel free to give our page a like, leave any reviews and support us going forward.
“We appreciate all the calls, support and help from the community and Kent Fire and Rescue these past couple of days. It means so much to us.”
Couple Simon and Hazel Jeffrey, who run The Woodman and his Wife, a small business based in Painters Forstal, previously told KentOnline how they had lost £18,000 worth of stock in the blaze.
The couple had a pitch at a woodcraft show at Old English Tools at Standard Quay, and had been storing their stock in a vacant unit, which also ended up in flames.
The Pottery Room also posted on social media following the fire, with owners Sarah and Ibi saying: “The firefighters worked so hard to put the fire out, thank you so much for what you do. It was terrible, but thankfully nobody got hurt.
“We will get around to responding to any enquiries made, but please bear with us at this difficult time.
“Thank you for all your support and understanding. Our love goes out to JC Lock And Safe who were above us and also have lost everything”.
A spokesperson for Standard Quay said it was “deeply saddened by the loss of these valued businesses” and is working closely with those affected to provide whatever support it can.
Crews from Faversham, Sittingbourne, Teynham, and Canterbury were at the scene until around 3am after the clocks went back.
In an update at 1pm yesterday, KFRS confirmed firefighting operations had been completed.
There were no reported injuries and the cause is believed to be an electrical fault.
