A man was left trapped in his van after a "serious collision" on the M2 near Faversham last night.
Firefighters used heavy rescue equipment to free the driver from the wreckage.
He was then treated by paramedics for head injuries.
The crash happened on the London-bound carriageway between Brenley Corner and Junction 6, at around 8.30pm.
A woman suffering neck pain was also treated at the scene.
Witnesses say the white van suffered "severe damage" after colliding with the central reservation.
A car is also thought to have been involved in the accident.
A spokesman for SECAmb said: "We were called just before 8.10 and sent ambulance crews in two ambulances and two cars to the scene."
"One patient was taken locally to Medway Maritime Hospital and one was taken to King's College Hospital in London."
Air ambulance crew also attended and helped to treat the two patients.
Lanes reopened at 10.30pm.
