Faversham's post office to have longer opening hours and to be taken over by operator ZCO Ltd

Rumours that Faversham's post office could be closing have been quashed by the company.

The branch in East Street will instead be benefitting from longer opening hours.

Extended hours are set to come into place when it is taken over by new operator ZCO Ltd in October on a franchise basis.

The post office will be open from 9am until 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, amounting to 51 hours a week.

There are also plans to refurbish the branch next year after the new operator has settled in.

Roger Gale, Post Office network and sales director, said: "We are making this change in order to maintain post office services in the centre of Faversham.

"There are unprecedented changes on our high streets and the needs of our customers are evolving too.

"The branch is set to see its opening hours extended to include Saturday afternoons, providing more convenient access for our customers."
