Marsh Family from Faversham respond to Gary Lineker saga with song set to the Match of the Day theme tune

A musical Kent family who went viral with their popular lockdown songs during the pandemic have released their take on the Gary Lineker affair.

The Marsh household, who live in Faversham, posted their latest topical ditty on Facebook last night after it emerged the presenter will not front this evening's football highlights.

BBC bosses have asked the former England striker to "step back" from presenting duties amid a row over his use of social media.

The latest ditty from the Marsh family, set to the Match Of The Day theme tune, includes the lyrics: "They've giving Lineker a kicking, for no apology."

Mr Lineker, who won the Golden Boot at the 1986 World Cup, has found himself at the centre of a heated debate about his views on the government's migration policy.

He enraged politicians and sections of the press after criticising the latest migration bill and likening language around the Channel crossings in small boats to Germany in the 1930s.

This evening's edition of Match Of The Day will now go ahead without a presenter, pundits and several regular commentators after Mr Lineker was told to step back from hosting the BBC show.

Former England footballers and MOTD regulars including Alan Shearer and Ian Wright announced last night that they would be boycotting the show in solidarity with Lineker.

The Marsh family went viral in 2020 after they took to singing about things people had been complaining about at the start of the first coronavirus lockdown.

People across the country fell in love with the family's rendition of Les Misérables song One Day More as it became KentOnline's most read story of the year.

After we broke the story, the Marshes went on to became a viral sensation and made headlines across the world.
