Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called out at exactly 8.09pm to a flat in Goldfinch Close, Faversham.

Two fire engines were sent and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

They cleared the property of smoke with a high pressure fan and were at the scene until exactly 8.46pm.

The fire is believed to have been caused accidentally.

A KFRS spokesman said: "We are now reminding members of the public to ensure they have working smoke alarms on each floor of their property.

"This resident was able to evacuate safely from their flat after being alerted by their alarm."
