Owner of Beauty Spot salon in West Street, Faversham speaks out after fire

The owner of a popular beauty salon which was gutted by a huge blaze said the image she saw as she first walked through the door will stay in her nightmares forever.

Six fire crews rushed to the Beauty Spot in West Street on Tuesday morning as flames ripped through the building, destroying everything that Trina Chalmers Taylor has worked for in her entire career.

Her business, which she has grown from nothing into a thriving, sought-after salon over the past 10 years, was obliterated in the fire.

But, determined to get back on her feet, Trina wants to assure everyone that they’re almost totally back up and running in the Little Beauty Spot at Syndale, where her 10 members of staff are working hard to retain a sense of normality.

Everyone who has appointments booked over the next few days will be contacted directly and they hope to find new pop-up premises by Monday.

Around 35 firefighters and the police were called to the fire at around 5am, with Thomas Road and West Street cordoned off and nearby residents warned to keep their windows and doors closed.

Trina heard about the fire as she was getting ready for work, when her son Luke saw a post on Facebook at around 7am.

Trina said: "When I first walked into the salon, all I could see was black and water everywhere.

"Everything is ruined. In one part of the building, there is a hole which goes through the ceiling and through the roof so you can see the sky.

"A lot of the floor is gone. The image of the treatment rooms will stay in our nightmares forever.

"We got as much out of the shop as possible but a lot of it is destroyed, smoke damaged or melted.

"But we are not thinking about that now. We are thinking about the future and moving forward."
