A busy route was cordoned off as crews dealt with a huge fire at a laundry.
The A251 was reportedly shut in both directions between the A2 and the slip road for the M2 in Faversham.
A bystander at the scene has told KentOnline the blaze is at Faversham Linen Services – opposite the town’s fire station.
He said: “There was loads of smoke and you could see flames coming from the top of the building.
“The smoke has gone white now where water has been put on it.”
At the height of the incident, 10 fire engines and a height vehicle attended.
Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used main jets and a fog spike to extinguish the flames and dampen down hot spots.
Another witness added: “Police have the road closed coming into Faversham from the roundabout by Premier Inn and Aldi.
“Lots of firemen, and it looked like it was right next to Faversham fire station. Not sure what’s happened.”
There are no reported injuries, and the cause is believed to be accidental.
Nikita Williams was another witness to the incident.
She said: “It was billowing with loads of black smoke.
“Within seconds, the fire brigade turned up.
“Then another two fire engines and two fire cars turned up on the scene, and police shut the road.”
Police confirmed it was called to a report of a fire at a commercial property in Ashford Road near Faversham.
Officers attended the scene to support the fire service with road closures.
It is not the first fire the business has suffered.
In 2013, its former Victorian site was burnt to the ground in a suspected arson attack.
A rival firm was later accused of trying to steal its customers in the wake of the blaze, as it called round and told people they had closed permanently.
